Festival Parade Workshop

Come and join other parents and carers who are starting to make the snake centrepiece for our entry as The Jungle Book in this year’s Children’s Parade. It all begins on Tuesday 15th March at 9.15 a.m. in the hall. You don’t have to be particularly artistic, just willing to “muck in” – it is good fun and very sociable too!

Bicentenary Exhibition Group

We will be having the first meeting of the Middle Street Bicentenary Exhibition Group (MSBEG) on Monday 7th March in the library at 9.15 a.m. This is to help prepare for the school having a special collection exhibited in Brighton Museum to help celebrate 200 years of Middle Street School. The group will start by looking through some of the very old logbooks to see if there are any interesting “nuggets” of the school’s history to include in the exhibition. Please let the office staff know if you are interested, but can’t make that meeting.

Jubilee Library

On Tuesday, the children in Year 4 were lucky enough to be invited to the pre-opening celebrations at the brand new Jubilee Library. They were treated to a story telling session from the artist who created the wonderful ceramic story wall, and were able to browse around the superb new children’s library. They were shown, briefly, on the BBC South Today programme that evening, and were featured in a photograph in the Argus.
The new library is magnificent, and I know that all of your children will enjoy it, it is well worth a visit soon.

DT Week

Children throughout the school have been having great fun, getting active and working hard on their Design Technology activities this week. All classes have been exploring different design related themes, including a hands-on workshop in the hall today with lots of construction and problem solving activities.
There will be a chance for parents and carers to see some of the finished products from the week in a mini exhibition in the hall after school next Friday 11th March.

World Book Day Fun

We all had such a lot of fun on Thursday coming to school dressed as our favourite characters. There were lots of adult super heroes from the Incredibles around to make sure that everything was kept in order!
Mrs Layzell has set up a display of books from around the world in the entrance lobby to help everyone celebrate World Book Day. £1 World Book Day tokens are coming home with each child.

Parent Teacher Meetings Next Week

Hopefully you have all received your invitations to meet with your child’s teacher either next Tuesday 8th or Wednesday 9th March. If you have not returned your slip, please do so as soon as possible. Thank you.

Year 2 Music Workshop

Next Wednesday morning, 9th March, Year 2 children will experience a Music workshop with our Music advisor, Peter Walker.

Moving on

I hope that you received my letter informing you that I will be leaving Middle Street at the end of this school year, and taking up the Headship of Woodingdean Primary School from September. Of course, I will be very sad to go, but at the same time I am looking forward to a new challenge. Thank you for all your messages of support and good wishes so far – I still have nearly 5 months left here, and a lot to look forward to before I leave!
