Christmas Cards for St Patrick’s Night Shelter

Mr Collins, Lucy, Nicky and Amelia all from Year 5 visited St Patrick’s night shelter in Hove on Thursday to deliver Christmas cards made by the children. The cards were, very gratefully received by Father Allen, who will pass them on to the homeless people who use the shelter over Christmas.

Chemistry Show

Year 5 enjoyed a fun and exciting show at the Dome on Wednesday. The show was an ’explosive, colourful and fun science show demonstrating the power of chemistry’ hosted by Dr Hal Sosabowski from the University of Brighton.

School Association Festive Afternoon Tea

Thank you to all who joined us for a festive afternoon tea on Thursday. It was a very jolly time enjoyed by all. Congratulations to the following people, who won raffle prizes: Issy Mackender and Hayward Lee in Year 4 won the Hampers, Jika Edstrom in Year 4, won Chocolates and a bottle of wine and Ombaashi Grech Cato in Year 1, won a bottle of wine and a family ticket for the Sea Life Centre. An enormous thank you to members of the School Association who put on a delicious Tea for us all and raised money for the school in the process.

Sponsored Pyjama Day

After reading an article about a charity that supports children with cleft palate and cleft lip, Hardy in Year 2 felt strongly that he wanted to do something to help. So today Hardy and Year 2 held a sponsored pyjama day. All the children and Year 2 staff wore their pyjamas to school today to raise money for the Smile Train charity. Well done Hardy and Year 2!

School Association Coffee Morning

The School Association are holding another coffee morning on Wednesday 10th January from 9.00 am in the Family room.

Scarlet Fever

I would like to alert you to the fact that there have been some incidences of Scarlet Fever in the school.

White Heat Family Day

Families are invited to attend hands on science workshops, experiments, demonstrations and debates on Saturday February 24th . Activities are mainly aimed at 10 –15 year olds. The venue is to be confirmed.

Bright Sparks Family Day

for younger children aged 7 – 12 years and is an opportunity for hands on fun for curious kids, science magic, gadgets, games and astonishing happenings.

Congratulations to…

even more Middle Street children who have won awards for their poems to be published in ‘A Pocketful of Rhyme East and West Sussex Verses’ due for publication on 28th February 2007. The children are Charley Brown, Caine Lewin-Turner, Niamh Taylor and Gabriel Archibald and Tanisha Flynn. Well done to you all.
Mrs Dyer has been presented with a ‘professional in the school’ award, highly commended in the school professional section of awards presented by the Well Child organisation. Mrs Dyer was nominated for the award by a parent. The parent very much appreciated the support that Mrs Dyer provided for her child, during her time at Middle Street. Well done Mrs Dyer.

Christmas Holiday Dates

We break for the Christmas holidays today and children return to school on Thursday 4th January. Nursery return a little later, on Monday 8th January.

We look forward to seeing you all again in the New Year.
