Welcome Back

What a bright and sunny start to the beginning of the Summer term we have enjoyed. Families, who have been stuck in various parts of the world, are gradually returning, now that it is safe to fly. We still have 2 members of staff stuck in Europe, but hopefully they’ll be back with us soon. If you are new to the school this term, a warm welcome to you from everyone at Middle Street.

Year 3 Bollywood

Year 3 performed their brilliant and colourful Bollywood dance in assembly this morning. Lots of year 3 parents and carers came along, which made the occasion even more special for the children. Year 3 recently performed the dance at the Dome in front of children and families from schools across Brighton.

Children’s Festival Parade

It’s that time of year again and lots of preparations are taking place for the children’s parade. The parade takes place on Saturday 1st May. Middle Street’s number is 8 this year, so we are very near to the front of the parade. We will assemble in Kensington Street from 9.45 am. Look for the number 8 flag fluttering above the crowds. The parade begins at 10.30.

Our theme this year is the polar region. Our main structure is an Inuit in a canoe. Children and adults should come dressed as Intuits e.g.: wearing parkas or hooded tops with fur edging, colour of outfits should be brown, or as polar bears or fish, colours of outfits should be either white or blue. Children will make masks etc in school to wear on the day.

Children’s workshops will take place in school time on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Let class teachers know if you are able to help with these workshops.

Ready Steady Read and Book Fair News

Thank you and well done to all those who took part in our Ready Steady Read fund raiser. We reached our target of £500, which means we have a grand total of £800 to spend on books for the classrooms! Hooray!

There will be a book fair in school in July. Originally the book fair was planned for this month (which is why you may have already received a booklet on the books for sale), but that has now been changed. The school will earn 100% commission from the sale of books at the fair. More information will follow nearer the time.

Natalie’s Skydive

Liylah Fisher is in Year 1. Her mum Natalie is about to jump from a plane at 20,000 feet. She is doing a freefall tandem skydive to raise money for St Barnabus House, which offers free treatment and therapies to those with life threatening illness and supports families in many ways including bereavement counselling for children. You can sponsor Natalie on line at www.justgiving.com/natalie-fisher. Natalie promises to show a video of the skydive to prove she went through with it!  Good luck Natalie!

School Car Park

Please could parents, carers and people dropping off or collecting children from school avoid parking and blocking the entrance to the school car park. Entry and exit to the car park is required throughout the day. Please can parents and carers and their children on foot take great care when walking across the entrance of the school car park.

May 6th Polling Day School Closed

The school is to be used as a polling station on Thursday 6th May. This means the school is open to the general public from early in the morning until late into the evening. The school will therefore be closed to children. Staff will however be at work as there will be training and other activities that staff are involved in.
