Walk to School Month

October is walk to school month so we have decided to celebrate the month by having a focus week beginning the 15th October where every one will be encouraged to walk all or some of the way to school. There will be charts to fill in and stickers to collect. Most of you already walk, cycle or use public transport, which is brilliant!

NSPCC Fund Raising

You will already have received sponsor forms home for our fund raising event. All the children from Nursery to Year 6 will be completing a circuit of PE activities on Monday 1st October to raise funds for the NSPCC. A representative from NSPCC spoke to the children in assembly last Monday and told them a little bit about the NSPCC and how the charity helps children.

Puppets in Year 5

On Tuesday the children in Year 5 enjoyed a creative literacy lesson using puppets. The children had to create characters and tell stories using the puppets. This was an excellent opportunity for the children to further develop their speaking and listening skills.

Magic Lantern

In Thursday’s assembly the children enjoyed a film presentation from the Magic Lantern group who work to inform children about the wonder and beauty of cinema.

Visit to Hove Museum

Year 1 are visiting Hove Museum on Tuesday 2nd October to find out all about toys and to handle old and interesting toys from the past.

Sporting Events

Teams of Middle Street children will be taking part in two sporting events next week. On Tuesday after school our Tag Rugby team will take part in a Tournament. Also on Tuesday our boys 6 a side football team will take part in a football tournament at East Brighton park after school. Thank you Ms Busby and Ms Whiting for accompanying the children to these events.

School Association Coffee Morning

The school association’s monthly coffee mornings resume this term. Our first of the year takes place next Wednesday 3rd October from 9.00 till 10.00. Join us in the Family Room for a coffee and a chat.

Parent Governor Applications

A reminder that the closing date for handing in your parent governor application is Friday 5th October.

Payments

The office staff have asked me to remind you to hand in payments for clubs, dinner money and deposits for Year 6 Little Canada residential. Thank you. Please do let us know if you have difficulties with payments.

Please Pick Up On Time

Once again we seem to have a small group of distressed children who are regularly left waiting in school for a half an hour or more at the end of the day to be collected. If you are persistently having problems collecting on time from school please make arrangements for someone to collect your child.

Kai Scott-Bridge in Year 6 is at it again! Kai is becoming quite a trapeze artist. Kai appeared at the Pavilion theatre last Sunday as part of Brighton’s Youth Aerial circus ‘The Circus of Wonders’. Well done Kai I have certainly heard lots of glowing reports of your performances. Kai very much appreciated his many school friends and teachers that were in the audience to support him.

Half Term
School finishes on Friday 19th October for half term and reopens again on Tuesday 30th October as we have a training day on Monday 29th October.
