Cross Country Success

On Saturday a group of Middle Street children joined Ms Busby at Waterhall for the annual Brighton and Hove Primary Schools Cross Country event. The children who entered the event did very well. The Year 6 boys team came 3rd overall in the competition. Sam in Year 6 came 3rd in the boys event and Madeline and Georgia from Year 6 came 5th and 7th in the girls event. Everyone else did very well and as always we are very proud of their achievements and how brilliantly they represent the school. Well done all who took part and thank you Ms Busby for accompanying the children to the event.

Reception Class Assembly

An amazing and, in the words of Mr Collins, ‘very lovely’ assembly was performed by Reception class today. They told the story of the ‘Little Red Hen’ and performed the ‘Three Bears Rap’. Well done Reception the rapturous applause was well deserved.

Fabulous Farm Shop

Reception, Years 1 and 2 celebrated the end of their ‘On the Farm’ learning journey by inviting parents and carers along to a Farm Shop on Monday. The children and their families made all the goods on sale at the Farm Shop. Well done everyone you managed to raise over £200 to be shared between the RSPCA and Guide dogs for the blind.

Spanish Fiesta Afternoon Tea

We all enjoyed a colourful Spanish Fiesta afternoon tea on Wednesday afternoon. Children enjoyed 3 days of Spanish focused lessons, which culminated in the Fiesta afternoon tea. The tea was kindly organised and run by the PTA School Association to which we send out a big THANK YOU. During the afternoon a number of raffle prizes were won including lots of delicious Easter eggs. The afternoon tea raised approximately £320 for the school. So many thanks to everyone who came along and joined in the fun. A very big thank you to the samba band for the afternoon’s musical entertainment.

Years 3 and 4 Visit to Museum

Years 3 and 4 went along to the new Egyptian exhibition at Brighton Museum. The enjoyed looking at all the artefacts and testing their knowledge as their learning journey draws to a close.

On Time Ted Winners

The winners of this term’s ‘On Time Ted’ prizes will be announced in Monday’s assembly after the holidays. 2 classes, one from the Infants and one from the Juniors will each win a £25 cheque to spend on a toy or game for Golden Time. Who are the lucky winners I wonder?

Learning Journey Update

Children and Staff continue to enjoy our new approach to learning via the Learning Journeys. We will continue to develop this approach to learning as we have been so pleased by the impact it has had on everyone’s learning and motivation. However staff feel that we have missed out a little on the personal and social aspects of learning and want to regain that focus at the beginning of each term as we have done in the past. So the first 2 weeks of term will have a PSHE focus which will include activities on children working collaboratively. During the 2 weeks there will also be a lead up to the new Learning Journey and the stunning start. You will receive sometime in the first 2 weeks of term our new style curriculum letter. Your suggestions made on the Learning Journey questionnaires completed earlier this year informed the design and content of the new curriculum letter.

Parent/Carer Governor Election

We have 2 parents who have put themselves forward to fill the parent/carer governor vacancy. We will therefore hold an election after Easter. More information and voting forms to follow after the holidays.

Festival Parade News

Please find attached some ideas for making head gear etc to wear on the parade. We will be dressing as clouds or monkeys (our element is air) Suggestions for clothing are as follows: white and silvery clothes for clouds and red shirts and trousers for monkeys. Look at Middle Street website for inspiration. Parade props workshops take place on the first and second Mondays after the holidays. They take place in the hall 3.15 till 5.00. The parade takes place on Saturday 2nd May.

Congratulations to…

Harvey Walters in Year 1 who has achieved his level 3 swimming award (Mum says ‘hoorah!). Well done Harvey!
