Musical Sounds from Chailey Heritage School

A group of young adults with disabilities visited us on Wednesday 6th May. They performed for us music composed by themselves using special instruments. Mr Brazil and a team of teachers form the Chailey Heritage School were on hand to assist the young people. Mr Brazil teaches at Chailey Heritage School when he is not working with us here at Middle Street. We all enjoyed their wonderful music very much and look forward to future visits. You can catch the performance on the Middle Street website.

Book Fair

Thank you to everyone who has been coming along to the book fair after school. We sold a considerable amount of books and have earned a large commission. Our commission will fund books for our library. I’m not sure exactly how much commission we made but it is around £400. So well done to everyone and thank you for your support.

Year 6 SATs

Year 6 relaxed this afternoon after sitting their final SATs paper this morning. All the children did their very best and of course we are all very proud of them. Well done Year 6 and thanks to the Year 6 parents and carers who ensured children were in school on time and ready to work. Results of the SATs tests are sent home with reports in July.

Walk to School Week

This year’s walk to school week takes place in the week beginning 18th May (next week). We know many of you walk to school or cycle regularly but if you normally travel by car we would like to encourage you to try walking or catching the bus and then walking.

All Aboard at the Marina

Reception children will be taking a boat trip from the Marina next Thursday. The boat trip is part of their Learning Journey and I’m sure will be lots of fun. I hope Mrs Denyer doesn’t get seasick!

Year 4 Residential Trip

Year 4 will be on a residential trip from Monday 1st June. They will be joining other schools from the City Centre at Galverston Hall for 3 days of activities and fun. They also have the added treat of spending time and making friends with children from other schools in the area.

Recipease

A member of Jamie Oliver’s PR team came along to talk with Mr Collins and I about the new shop opening in Western Road. The shop will sell Jamie Oliver merchandise but will also have a cookery school. It is the cookery school which we are particularly interested in and we will be discussing with the cookery school team how we can work together to promote healthy eating and further involve the children in developing their cooking skills. The shop is called ‘Recipease’ and opens on Monday 25th May.

Athletics Sessions at Withdean Stadium

Key stage 2 children will have some of their PE lessons at Withdean stadium on Friday afternoons for the next few weeks.
