Children’s Festival Parade
Luckily the weather stayed fine for the children’s parade on Saturday. I thought we all looked fantastic representing the Polar region. Thank you to everyone who came along and joined in. Your costumes were as always fabulous! A special thank you to the small group of parents and staff who built the main structure and organised workshops. Your help is very much appreciated. The Samba band was great and it was lovely to have some ex-pupils joining in with the band. Next year we will be having a year off from the parade, although I believe Mr Brazil will still be entering our Samba band, so Middle Street will still be represented.
Fantastic Football Team
On Wednesday our very talented Year 5 football team got through to the semi finals of the Varndean Tournament. The team were brilliant with excellent tackles, defending and goal scoring. We are especially proud of the team for their mature attitude toward other teams, they didn’t rise to provocation and made us feel very proud with their positive team spirit. The team players were Hamish (team captain), Jake, Lottie Katty, Christian, Ateya, Denise, Jacob and Max.
Espanol Fantastico !
I am sure you are already aware that the children across the school learn Spanish as part of their primary languages curriculum. We have been very fortunate recently in having an excellent volunteer whose first language is Spanish. Lourdes has been teaching Spanish alongside teachers in all the classes. We have also benefitted from a teacher of Spanish who is team teaching in Key Stage 2 sharing her good practice and lots of great ideas for teaching Spanish. Ole!
Sing Up
Mr Brazil has signed us up as a ‘Sing Up’ school. You may have seen something on the news recently about the Sing Up project. We enjoy singing at Middle Street, so it will be easy for us to achieve the awards attached to the project. Singing is good for us in so many ways in particular our sense of well being and easing stress which is always a bonus!
Bike It Breakfast
On Friday 21st May there’s a bike it event taking place in the hall at the beginning of the day. Children can bring their bikes in for activities and enjoy a bike it breakfast.
On Time Teds
This week the winners are joint winners in Key Stage 1 Reception and Year 2. In Key Stage 2 the joint winners are Year 3 and Year 6. Well done all 4 classes!
Super Hero Day
On Friday May 21st children (and parents if they wish) can come to school dressed as a superhero. The day is in aid of raising funds for Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice. Dress up and donate whatever you wish. Donations can be handed in to the school office.
Changes to Lunchtime
You will be pleased to know that I am planning to extend the children’s lunchtime from 45 minutes to 55 minutes in the new academic year. This will affect the timings at the end of the day. For the infants this means their day will end at 3.10 and for the Juniors their day will end at 3.15. Please could you let me know if you have any objections to these changes by Friday 28th May. I will confirm at a later date the final arrangements for the changes to the school day.
Congratulations to….
Zeke Huguenet in Year 4 who has achieved his brown belt in Wing Tsun Kung Fu. Well done Zeke!
