Welcome Back
I hope you all had an enjoyable half term break. We are all looking forward to the coming half term and hopefully the weather will continue improving.
Aviva Sportshall Primary Schools Competition
12 boys and 12 girls from Years 5 and 6 represented Middle Street at the Aviva Sportshall Primary Schools Competition. The children had a fantastic day taking part in a variety of athletic events. I am delighted to announce we came fourth out of 12 schools in the competition. They were a credit to the school and their parents. Their enthusiasm, behaviour and athletic skills were outstanding! Well done and thank you.
World Book Day Dressing Up
It’s World Book Day on Thursday 1st March. However we will be celebrating the day on Friday by asking the children, if they wish (we hope they do) to dress up as their favourite book character. We are looking forward to a fun day and at some point in the day everyone will get together to admire each other’s costumes.
Upstairs and Downstairs
Years 3 and 4 will be exploring the household of Preston Manor and finding out about living and working in the last century. Year 3 are visiting Preston Manor on: Thursday 1st March and Year 4 the following week on Monday 5th March.
Groovy! A 60s Festival
Years 5 and 6 are planning a 60s style festival for Friday 2nd March in the afternoon. The event will take place at the Friends Meeting House where there will be live music, products for sale and lots of other activities to take part in.
Olympic Ring Fundraising Event
We are planning to hold a fundraising event in the near future in aid of the Martletts Hospice and in Memory of Karen Sinclaire. The event will have an Olympic theme and we’ll let you know more very soon.
On- Time Teds
This week’s Key Stage 1 winners are Year 1 with 1 late mark and in Key Stage 2 the winners are Years 3 and 4 with only 1 late mark each. Well done to all three classes for being so very punctual. We have reset the school bell to ring at 9.00 am. Children should be in class when the bell rings. If they are not in class they will be marked in as late. Please allow enough time before 9 for children to hang coats etc on pegs.
Dates for Your Diary Coming Up
The Spring term parents and carers consultation meetings take place on Wednesday 28th March and Thursday 29th March. This is a change to the original dates so please amend your diaries. A more detailed letter will arrive home nearer the time.
Play Box Parent Volunteers Please
I am looking for a group of dedicated and committed parent/carer volunteers who can put together play boxes for use at playtimes. The boxes will be made up of safe scraps of loose materials and equipment that children can build and create with during outdoor play. There is a small budget to set up the boxes but the idea is to approach local businesses for waste materials e.g. large cardboard tubes, nets, boxes etc. If you are interested in running this project please let me know and I’ll arrange to meet with those interested to talk in more detail.
A Middle Street Mum needs your help
Is there anyone who can help out a mum with getting their child to school. Amy Barlow is hoping there is someone who may be able to collect and bring her daughter to school (Matilda in Year 3) a couple of mornings a week. Amy lives in the Moulescoomb area and is happy to pay for your help. If you can help Amy please contact her on: 07717803819
Congratulations to…
Tyus in Year 5 who has achieved his 1000 metres swimming certificate. Well done Tyus!
Easter Break
We finish for the Easter break on Friday 30th March and return to school on Tuesday 17th April.
