Equality and Human Rights Commission at Middle Street

Did you see Year 6 on BBC South on Tuesday evening? If you didn’t, you can view the news item on the BBC website.  Better still check out the Middle Street website to watch the video filmed by Poppy Stout during the visit. Thanks Poppy!

Trevor Philips from the Equalities and Human Rights Commission was joined by Sadiq Khan and Anne Begg both members of parliament.  The children took part in a discussion with Trevor Philips and the MPs about becoming an MP and what the job entailed. The focus of the discussion was on equalities and why it is important that all groups within society are represented in Parliament. The children made some very interesting and thoughtful comments as well as asking some challenging questions but none of them felt they would like to become MPs..
