May Day Morris Dancers

The Brighton Morris men and women arrived at Middle Street on Tuesday to celebrate May Day with us. They performed several dances for us and ended with a sunny song about the end of winter and arrival of summer. We were joined by the Mayor of Brighton and Hove Councillor Bill Randall who thanked us for letting him join in the celebration. Thank you Brighton Morris men and women the children really enjoyed your visit.

Children’s Parade News

The children’s festival parade has finally arrived. All children joining the parade should be accompanied by an adult. School staff are not able to take responsibility for unattended children.
Our flag number in the children’s parade is 73 and our assembly point is in Gloucester Road. Please arrive before 10.30 in time to begin the parade. Our float/theme is the Yellow Submarine so come dressed as characters from the film or in bright colourful clothes.
Samba band should arrive by 10.15. Please wear the T-shirt and don’t forget your instrument. At the end of the parade, samba players will take their instrument home with them. Instruments, T- shirts and bandanas should be returned to the school on Tuesday morning. Thank you to everyone who has helped prepare for this year’s parade. Your help has been greatly appreciated. Well done you are superstars! See you all tomorrow.

Congratulations to…

Ammabelle from Year 3, who is one of the winners of the Brighton Banner Competition 2013. Ammabelle’s banner can be found hanging in the city alongside other winners. Each Banner has the child’s name along with the school’s name. The banners are hanging in Western Road, North Street and at the entrance to Bond Street and Market Street. Well done Ammabelle!

We are planning for this to be the last year we hold sports day at the Withdean stadium. We are hoping to find a new venue which will make it easier to run sports day in a different format.

Parent/Carer Governor Vacancies

Today is the last day we can accept nominations to become a parent governor. If we have more than two nominations we will hold a ballot. I will let you know the outcome in next week’s Friday News if not before.

Road Safety Reminder

We have noticed several children running ahead of parents and carers on their way to school. Please remember that delivery lorries and other traffic are often moving around (and drivers getting stressed) in the roads around the school. So please take great care on your way to and from school.
