Year 3 Dancing at the Dome

Year 3 performed their dance at the Dome on Monday evening. Their performance was fantastic and very professional. They really enjoyed the evening and were a real credit to their parents and the school. Well done Year 3 and thank you Ms Busby, Ms Priestman and everyone else who helped the children with this wonderful dance.

Children’s Festival Parade

The parade is almost upon us. I can’t believe a year has flown by since the last one! Our theme is Brazilian food. The children have been busy making shakers and lots of palm trees have appeared all over the school. The children have made headwear for the day and should be dressed in yellow, green and orange and parents should dress in the same colours. If you really want to pull out all the stops you can dress as a piece of exotic Brazilian fruit. Mrs Purdy tells me Hennes sells cheap colourful T shirts.
Our flag number is 67 and we will assemble in Sydney Street, zone F at 10.30. The Samba band should arrive a little earlier at 10.15 to meet with Mr Brazil. Please can I remind you that all children should be accompanied by an adult as staff will not be responsible for the care and safety of children before, during and or after the parade.

Community Police Officer visiting

Our community police officer, WPC Lesley Owen will be visiting the school in the very near future. She will be talking with children in the infants and the juniors about keeping safe, looking after possessions and respecting the possessions of others. WPC Owen has also offered to security mark children’s mobile phones. She is planning to do this on the afternoon of Wednesday 7th June. Children who wish to have their phones marked need to know their postcode. I will remind the children nearer the time.

Holidays in Term Time

As you know there has been a lot of discussion in the press recently about parents taking children on holiday during term time. At Middle Street we try to be as flexible as possible but I have to remind you that children are really only allowed up to 10 days out of school for a holiday but even this should be avoided if possible. I completely understand the many reasons you have for taking children on holiday during term time but please can I ask you to think very carefully about when you take your holidays and also the length of the break. I sympathise with you but I am also accountable to the Local Education Authority for school absences. So I have to also take into account government legislation regarding requests for holidays during term time.

Bank Holiday

Please remember not to come to school on Monday as it is a Bank holiday and unfortunately I think it’s going to rain! School will reopen on Tuesday 2nd May.

Half Term

We finish for the half term break on Friday 26th May and reopen again on Tuesday 6th June as we have a teachers training day on the Monday.
