Art Gallery

Lots of parents visited the art gallery on Monday and were extremely impressed with the stunning displays. The children had worked very hard the week before to get everything ready. I would like to thank Debs Knight for setting up the art gallery and giving everyone an opportunity to share the wonderful work of the school in this way.

Silent Auction

Year 6 are holding a silent auction for their Rainforest inspired art work displayed in the hall corridor. If you wish to bid for a piece, the form to complete is in the office. All the money raised is going towards saving some of the rain forests.

Athletics Meeting

The Middle Street athletics team had a very successful and enjoyable time at the athletics meeting at Withdean on Wednesday 16th June. Harlem, Agnes, Nasir, Fern, Chloe and Eilish all won gold medals and Sita won two gold medals. Kavanagh won a silver medal, and Declan, Molly, Kizzie, Agnes, Ivy, Kavanagh, Daniel, Zephir, Oliver, Jonathan and Nasir all won bronze medals.

The team was a credit to the school, Mrs Busby was so proud of them all. She was delighted with their behaviour, and their very supportive attitudes toward each other.

A reminder that Sports Day for Years 1 to 6 will be held at Withdean Stadium on Thursday 1st July – letters with full details will be sent home next week.

Congratulations to Harlem Eubank

Harlem won a cup in a recent Karate competition and is going to compete in the British Nationals on 26th June. Good Luck Harlem!

Congratulations also to Madeleine Houghton and Sophie Walters

both in Year 1 for completing the National Swim Award Level 3 – well done to both of you.

The Ugly Bugs

Year 1 visited Waterstone’s Bookshop to meet Liz Pichon, the author of The Very Ugly Bug. She read the book to them, and they made their own ugly bugs. The class had a wonderful time and Ms Pichon was most impressed by how well the children behaved and how keen they all were. Well done Year 1

Amazing Art Week

The children have been very busy with a variety of exciting art based activities throughout the week. The range of class-based activities and workshops has been wonderful.

Six children have been creating a “Shrek 2” mural at the Odeon cinema, Year 3 were treated to a workshop on Aboriginal art, children in Years 2, 3 and 4 created screen prints with the help of two parents. Year 2 and Year 6 children enjoyed a visit to Drusilla’s to inspire their art work. Year 1 children had a handling session from the museum service to inspire their wonderful butterflies.

Yet again, the support from parents and carers throughout the week has been outstanding, thank you to everyone who has helped the children get so much out of the week. A big thank you, also, to Debs Knight for organising the whole event, and all members of staff for facilitating Art Week.

You should have received an invitation from your child to visit the exhibition in the hall. Classes will be viewing at the following times next Monday.

Well done Lois Hoff

I am delighted to report that Lois, in Year 4 has won a competition to have her design printed on a litter bin for the school. Her “Bin Monkey” will hopefully encourage everyone to be more litter aware.

Walking to School

I was very impressed to hear the Aaron in Year 4 and Ben in Reception have walked to school on several occasions – they live over 3 miles away!

A Strappy Issue

A reminder that children must not wear strappy tops to school, please ensure that all children have their shoulders covered whilst at school. Also, a reminder that flip flops and shoes without backs or back straps are not acceptable in school for safety reasons.

During the hot weather, children will need sun hats, and it is even more important that they have drinking water bottles in school. Thank you.

Sports Day

We have decided that Reception class will join The Nursery for their Sports day this year, a letter should have come home about this. The rest of the school will have Sports Day at Withdean Stadium on Thursday 1st July. A letter with further details will come home shortly.
