Blue Friday

Today children and staff dressed in blue to mark the end of Anti Bullying week. Through the week children have worked on various activities exploring friendship and what to do when things go wrong.

Enterprise Day

Year 6 are taking part in an exciting competition called ‘One Big Idea’. The children were introduced to the project by Benita Matofska one of our parent Governors. The children explored an existing business model and created new ideas which could make a profit whilst addressing a social or environmental issue in Malawi. The children spent yesterday working on this project during which they were visited and photographed by the Argus newspaper. Their idea for a product will be entered into a competition where the winning idea will be produced and 100% of Global Ethic’s profits from its sale will be used to tackle the issue in Malawi.

Makaton for Maths

Makaton signing has been used for a long time to support children with a variety of needs and difficulties around speech and language. It is however a strategy when used correctly and as everyday practice to which has a positive impact on all children’s learning. The staff at Middle Street are  currently involved in training to develop their skills in using Makaton with a particular focus on speaking and signing mathematical vocabulary. If you would like to see Makaton in action then I would recommend you watching ‘Mr Tumble’ in ‘Something Special’ on CBBS. You could of course ask for a demonstration from your child’s teacher too.

This means that the children and adults in the school will be encouraged to wear their finest blue clothes, hats, accessories etc. We have 50 blue wrist bands to give to those children with the craziest blued outfit.

During Anti-Bullying week we will be addressing issues of friendship, focusing on ‘Staying Safe in Cyberspace’ in particular.

There has been a new addition to reception class. On Monday they went on an adventure to Churchill Square. As well as having fun travelling up and down on the escalators they also bought a doll  as part of their ‘All About Me’ learning journey. They have named him Rufus and have been very pleased to welcome him into their class. Mrs. Denyer would like to say a big thank you to the parents who bought tickets for naming the doll.

Thunder Kids

Last Saturday saw the first Thunder Kids morning club for Dads, Male Carers and their children. Although it was a small group for this first time, all who attended had a great time and enjoyed the activities on offer. The next Thunder Kids will take place at Middle Street on Saturday 5th December between 9.00 and 12.00 am. It is a really good opportunity for the children to have a go at a variety of activities with their dads and carers. If you are interested in joining the group for the next session or would like some more information then please come and have a chat with Tim Owers, one of our learning mentors. Alternatively you are able to just drop in on the morning.

Christmas Show

As reported in last week’s Friday News the school Christmas show takes place this year on Thursday 10th December in the afternoon at the Sallis Benny theatre.  Miss Silkowski has the unenviable task of auditioning the KS2 children for the main parts of the production. This is a really tricky job and unfortunately some children may be disappointed with the final decision. She has asked me to ensure that the children know that everybody who wants to have a part will be able to have one.

Christmas Fair

The Christmas fair will be on Thursday 3rd December from 3.00 – 5.00pm.

An option we would like to avoid so please help us by supplying up to date information.
