Friday News News

This is the last Friday News for this academic year. So I would like to thank you all for another excellent and fun year at Middle Street. The children have worked hard and progressed brilliantly in their learning. We are saying goodbye to Year 6 which is always sad, but also exciting too as they venture out into secondary education and their time together comes to an end. We are so proud of all of them.  We are also saying goodbye to a few nursery children who are moving on to ‘big school’ in various parts of the city. We wish them lots of luck in their new schools. Goodbye and good luck too to Billy from Year 5 who is moving to Devon and Phoebe from Reception who is starting at a school closer to home in September. We will miss you all.

Finally, many of you will be relieved to hear that the Friday News will return to paper copies delivered to you on Fridays. The large majority of you said you preferred the Friday News on paper. I spend some time on a Friday writing the Friday News so I do want to know it is being read by you all. Someone wrote on the survey that they actually look forward to the Friday News, thank you. Thanks to everyone who returned the survey.

Creepy House Summer Reading Challenge

This years summer reading challenge run by the libary service has a spooky theme. It has been created by Chiris Riddell, the award winning illustrator and author. To get involved, sign your child up at your local library where they will receive a Creepy House poster. Over the summer they read 6 books of their choice, collecting stickers along the way. Other Creepy House activities will be running in the libraries and there is a website www.creepy-house.org.uk with lots of interesting resources. There will also be a letter sent home on Monday following Mondays reading challenge assembly. Its a great way of keeping children engaged and enthusiastic about reading over the holidays.

School Library News

In September we will be making some improvements to our library. To help us with this project there will fundraising events for new books and furniture. We will also be asking for donations of good quality second-hand books, so please bear this in mind should you be having a sort-out at home over the holidays.
