Sing a long a Middle Street

Mr Brazil and I think it would be a fun idea to hold sing along sessions on a Friday morning before school starts. Children, parents and staff are welcome to join in. Mr Brazil will be in the hall from about 8.20 until 8.40 on Friday mornings where he will be singing familiar songs which we can join in with. Singing is a great way to start the day and kicks off all those endorphins in your body making you feel good to be alive. So pop in to the hall when you arrive and join in with the singing.

Please Tie Hair Back

If you are a boy or a girl with long hair please tie your hair back to protect yourself and others from headlice.

Congratulations to…

Georgia, Saffron, Scarlett, Dixie, Morgan, Freya and Ane who raised £120 for Comic Relief with their cake sale. Well done girls!

Devon Olney who raised £31.50 for Comic Relief by attending school in her pyjamas, dressing gown and slippers. Well done Devon!

The children watched a short film about a young asylum seeker and then wrote messages to be hung on a special tree on display at Jubilee Library. Do go along to the library to read the thoughtful messages from Middle Street children hanging alongside messages from young asylum seekers. You can add your own message to the tree.

Ms Bryant and Mr Smart starred alongside Skye, Cain, Axelle and Sylvie in their very own Get Set Cook performance to promote healthy eating. The show was put on for us by Chartwells who provide our school lunches. The teams made stir-fry and accompaniments. The audience voted the red team (Mr Smart’s team) as the winners. Well done Mr Smart, Sylvie and Axelle.

Family Information Event

Nit Alert!

Those pesky head lice are nibbling again, especially in Year 1. Please could everyone check their child’s (and the rest of the family’s) hair on a regular basis and treat if any beasts are uncovered. If you are having a particular problem with head lice, please ask to speak to the school nurse – Lisa Bashford. Lisa can give you lots of helpful advice.

Two Reminders

In the mornings, if you arrive before 8.45, please use the side entrance gate in Middle Street to enter the school. The Boyces Street gate is open from 8.45 until 9.00. Unfortunately there is no one available to open the main gate in Boyces street before 8.45, so please don’t waste your time buzzing to come in. Thank you.

Please can parents and carers ensure their children do not play ball games in the playground at the beginning or end of the day. It is very dangerous and can make the playground feel unsafe for adults and children if balls are flying around. Yesterday a baby was almost hit by a ball which would have been very distressing for the child and parent. If children take footballs from the hall without school permission, they will be in trouble. So do remind them if you see this happening. Thank you.

Let’s Dance Said Year 3

And dance they did! Year 3 performed their Bugsy Malone dance at the Let’s Dance Festival on Wednesday evening. It was of course brilliant and that’s not just from me, a colleague from another school also said how impressive Year 3 was. Thank you to Sarah Moriarty for organising, preparing and accompanying the children to the event. Also many thanks to Karen Sinclaire for supporting and accompanying the children, Sue Purdy for organising the costumes, Sam Bish and Dan Baker for also supporting the class on the night.

Get Set Cook

Next Wednesday morning Ms Bryant and Mr Smart each with a small team from their classes are taking part in a Get Set cooking event. This fun event will be full of information about healthy eating but with the added excitement of Ms Bryant and Mr Smart actually cooking dishes with the help of their assistants. Ms Bryant and Mr Smart will be in competition with each other so who knows what the outcomes (and mess will be). The rest of the school are invited to be the audience at this exciting event. The Argus will of course be joining us on the day.

Year 1 Collecting Toys

Aiden Matticoe in Year 1 has had a brilliant idea on helping others. Following an RE discussion on Lent Aiden suggested making a collection to help children less fortunate then himself. He is involving his class mates and they’ve decided to collect unused toys for the Rocking Horse charity. If your child would like to contribute (this is aimed at year 1 children but any donations are welcome) please bring in an unused toy (however small) by Monday 21st March. Aiden and Year 1 will then send off the donations to the charity. Thank you, Aiden for being so thoughtful.

Keyboard Lesson

Important News There will be no keyboard lessons this coming Monday 14th March.

Allocation of Places on After School Clubs

Our after school clubs have become very popular and many children are disappointed on a regular basis. We are aware of this difficult situation and hopefully we can avoid disappointment in the future. We are planning a fairer system where children will be allocated a place on a club only once and then will return to bottom of the waiting list (unless there are empty spaces). This will allow everyone interested in a club an opportunity to join at some point. Allocation of places will no longer be on a first come first served basis.

Lost

Devon Olney has lost a black scarf with colour splashes and silver studs on either end. The scarf was last seen in the year 1 cloakroom. If you find Devon’s scarf please hand in at the office.
Ben Gibson has lost his scooter. It’s a JP Bug scooter with black wheels. Bens name is on the scooter so please check your scooter and return Ben’s if you find it

The event takes place here at Middle Street in the school hall on Wednesday 16th march 2.30 – 5.00.

Vacancy for General Kitchen Assistant

We have a vacancy in our school kitchen for a general kitchen assistant. The hours are 10 hours a week: 11.30 – 1.30 Monday to Friday. If you are interested in this position please contact the school office and they will tell you how to apply.

Middle Street Grown Ups Choir

The Middle Street choir is still going strong with regular members both male and female. However, we would love more people to come along and join in. If you are interested in joining in the fun come along on a Thursday 5.00 – 6.00 to the school hall. It’s great fun and at the moment it is still free. You can bring friends and other family members with you. The more the merrier. It’s not formal in any way and you will be amazed at the end of just one session you will have sung a whole song brilliantly even if in your view you can’t sing. If you don’t believe come and try it out for yourself. Go on I dare you!
