Great Fire of London- Not!

Year 2 were left feeling rather disappointed today. They had planned to safely re-enact the Great Fire of London in the school playground with a model of London. The session had been planned carefully with risk assessments etc and with the agreement (or so we thought, following several discussions on the phone with them) of the Fire Service who were booked to come along to support and ensure the fire was safely extinguished. When the crew arrived they refused to allow the fire to be lit and said they had no knowledge of our plans. We will of course be looking into why we were misinformed. Year 2 did get to explore the fire engine and have a chat with the fire fighters.

Fire Brigade Visit Nursery

The Fire Brigade visited the Nursery today. The children were able to find out all about fire fighters and enjoyed exploring the fire engine. Most of all they enjoyed using the fire hose and squirting water at passers by!

The Green Oscars

Our Climate Change Eco Ambassadors attended the Brighton and Hove Young Environmentalist Awards ceremony last night. They won the Climate Change award for all their hard work helping and encouraging others to play their part in preventing climate change. They were presented with a special trophy (of recycled materials, of course) and a £1000 for the school to spend on future eco friendly initiatives. Well done to Joey, Madeleine, Ruby, Harry, Grace, Emelia, Monica, Georgia, Jessica and Ariel all in Year 5 for doing such a great job! Thank you to Ms Layzell who works with the team and who nominated the team for the award.

Eco Café

Our Eco Warriors raised over £100 from their wonderful Eco Café. The Café was visited by lots of hungry children and adults on Tuesday. They enjoyed a variety of healthy snacks and in doing so helped the Eco Warriors raise awareness of climate change issues. They will be donating half their funds to Oxfam and the other half to Middle Street to put towards future climate change initiatives.
