Lovely Lunches

The children and staff are all enjoying the new arrangements for school dinners. A big thank you to our kitchen staff for their hard work and super cooking!
Please make sure your child orders their school dinner in the morning during register. If your child arrives late you must order their dinner at the office.
If your child has a packed lunch, could you please provide the necessary cutlery as a lot of our forks and spoons are disappearing!

 On Time Teds

This week’s Key Stage 1 winners are Year 1 with 0 late marks. In Key Stage 2 the winners are Year 5 and Year 3 who both had 3 late marks. Well done to all three classes and well done to all those families who are doing a fantastic job of getting to school on time. It really does make a big difference to the success of your child’s school day if they here on time and ready to start the day with the rest of their class.

Middle Street Choir

Welcome to the new members of the choir. If you would like to join us, we meet in the hall on Thursdays 5.00 till 6.00. You do not need to book or commit to coming every week, just turn up and join in when you can.

Violin Lessons

Lessons have been changed from Tuesdays to Mondays. If your child has violin lessons, please bring your violin to school for your lesson this Monday.

Dinner Money Online

As we are experiencing a few teething problems with ‘Parent-Pay’,’ parents can pay dinner money directly to the office to avoid a debt building up.

Parent Governor

Thank you to the parents who have cast their votes. If you would like to vote, please put your slip into the box outside the office.

Contact Details

If your contact details have changed recently, please ensure the office has the correct address and telephone number so we may contact you when necessary.

First Aid

Well done to Mrs Walker and Ms Bennett for completing their first aid training this week.
If your child needs an inhaler or any other medication to be administered in school, please ensure the necessary medication is in school, in date and the office is notified.

Absence

If your child is unwell, please phone the school first thing in the morning.

Congratulations

Hamish Morrison in Year 6 has been successful in his trials for Brighton Boys football team. It is a great honour as he was selected from boys throughout the whole of Brighton and Hove. Middle Street is really proud of this achievement. Well done Hamish!

Missing Scooter

Daniel in Year 3’s scooter went missing from school on Wednesday 22nd September, which has upset Daniel greatly. The scooter is two wheeled with a picture of a Ninja on it. If your child has mistakenly taken it home, please ensure they return it.

School Council Elections

School council elections have taken place this week. The following children have been elected to represent their class at school council meetings:

Year 1: Isabella Moore Smith and Jack Carville

Year 2: Bea Dickie and Joe Mackender

Year 3: Lily Lokko-Williams and Tabani Pullen

Year 4: Lucy Lloyd and Felix Shepherd

Year 5: Freya Ebdon and Dustin Van Der Poll

Year 6: Martha Irvin Wilmot and Jeric Harding Barnes

On Time Teds

This week the winners in Key Stage 1 are Year 2 with 0 late marks. In Key Stage 2 the winners are Year 5 with 1 late mark. Well done to both classes!

Parent Governor

We have two parents who would like to stand for election to our governing body. Information will be sent home shortly on the two parents and how to vote.

Middle Street Choir

The Middle Street Choir has resumed and already sounding brilliant! The choir meets in the hall on Thursdays 5.00 till 6.00. If you would like to join us simply turn up on the day.

Supervision of Children at End of Day

Please could parents collecting children at the end of the day from the Key stage 1 classes please ensure they are supervising their children. On Wednesday an expensive piece of new equipment was badly damaged because children were not being properly supervised by parents. As you can imagine this has upset the member of staff responsible for this equipment. The school staff work hard at encouraging children to respect resources etc so please support us by ensuring your children are behaving appropriately when in your care at the end of the day.

Promptness Appreciated

Please could parents and carers arrive in good time to collect children from after school clubs? We may have to start charging for those parents who are exceptionally and regularly late. This is because a staff member is required to work overtime to care for children whose parents are late.

Dinner Money Online

If you have any difficulties paying online for school dinners please contact the school office. Staff will do their best to help to resolve any problems.

Half Term Break

We close for the half term break on Friday 22nd October and return on Tuesday 2nd November. The Monday 1st November is a school training day.

Welcome Back

Well, hello again everyone and if you are new to Middle Street a very warm welcome to you. It’s great to be back and see you all again even though it’s a struggle for many of us climbing out of bed at such an early hour again!

You may have already noticed the huge improvements to the children’s toilets which have been completely refurbished and now look absolutely fabulous. The only toilets we haven’t been able to improve are those used by Years 5 and 6. Annoyingly I wasn’t able to secure enough funding to cover a complete refurbishment. I am however doing what I can to secure funding for the future to ensure those toilets are improved.

We have also had sound absorbing panels placed on the walls in the hall and on the ceilings in the Reception and Key stage 1 classrooms to improve the acoustics for all but especially for those children and adults who have a hearing impairment. The panels look quite basic but they have certainly improved the quality of sound in those rooms particularly in the hall.

The children have an exciting year ahead of them exploring and learning through their learning journeys which are enriched by trips out and all sorts of visitors coming in to ensure the learning is fun and interesting. We are all looking forward to a great and busy year ahead.

Creepy Crawlies in Years 5 and 6

Years 5 and 6 got their Learning Journey off to a creepy start on their first day back. They enjoyed a visit from among other creepy, crawly and slithery beasts a tarantula, lizards and snakes. Today a visitor from Australia visited the children to share interesting facts and stories about Australia.

Learning Journey Curriculum Letters

You will receive this terms Learning Journey curriculum booklet by the end of next week. This will provide you with an overview of key learning points, key vocabulary and other helpful information on what your child will be learning about over the coming term.

Meet the Teacher Dates

We would like to invite you in to meet with your child’s class teacher on the following dates: Years 1 and 2 on Monday 14th September, Years 3 and 4 on Tuesday 15th September and Years 5 and 6 on Thursday 17th September. The meetings are held in the year group classrooms and begin at 9.10 am and finish at 9.30. The meeting is informal and is an opportunity to say hello to the class teacher if you haven’t already done so, find out more about expectations of your child this year and an overview of the curriculum for the year.

Parent Consultation Evenings

The autumn term Parent and Carer consultation evenings are on Tuesday 13th October and Wednesday 14th October. During the meeting you will find out how your child has settled into their new year group and their learning targets. More information to follow nearer the time.

After School Clubs

You will receive information on the after school clubs running this half term within the next 2 weeks. So do lookout for the letter. Check those book-bags or ask at the office if you think you may have missed the letter.

On Time Teds

On Time Teds will be awarded in next Friday’s assembly. On Time Teds are awarded to the class in Infants and the class in the Juniors who has the least late marks in the register for that week. Over the term a record is kept of the winners. The 2 classes who have won the On Time Teds most often are each awarded a class prize of £25 to spend as they wish. Be punctual and get to school on time and help win the prize for your class!

Breakfast Club and After School Care

Do remember that we offer a free breakfast club from 8.00 am. Breakfasts are available at a small cost. There are also after school care clubs who collect from Middle Street. Please ask a member of office staff for more information.

Half Term Holiday

School finishes for the Autumn half term break on Thursday 22nd October. School opens again on Monday 2nd November.
