OH NO NOT SNOW!

I am so sorry we have had to close today because of the snow. This last day of term is always a fun day at school so it’s a shame we are missing out on that festive fun. Also we wanted to say our goodbyes to Mr Collins in assembly today. So I have asked Mr Collins to visit us on the first Friday back to join the children and staff for the Celebration assembly. He will be in school on that Friday morning if you would like to see him and say your goodbyes.

Thank You and Farewell Mr Collins

We have really enjoyed having Mr Collins as our deputy head teacher over the last 4 years. We thank him very much for all that he has done for Middle Street. We have all had great fun during his time with us. Mr Collins, the children staff and parents/carers will miss you very much but we wish you well and good luck in your new job. We know you will be BRILLIANT!

I’m a School Child Get Me Out of Here!

Years 5 and 6 had great fun celebrating the end of this term’s Learning Journey with an event in the hall on Tuesday afternoon. The event was based on TV show ‘I’m a celebrity get me out of here’. Activities were messy and quite disgusting! The Argus joined us for the afternoon. The event appeared in the Argus on Wednesday and a video can also be found on the Argus website.

Year 3 Hire Knight to Rescue Princess

Year 3 celebrated the end of their learning journey on Thursday with a banquet to celebrate their princess being rescued by the Knight. The princess was very grateful.

Year 4 celebrated their learning journey with a feast of fairy tale food made by the children.

Year 1 Help Father Christmas Get Back His HO HO HO

Children in Year 1 formed a Father Christmas fan club to help Father Christmas gain more publicity. Father Christmas visited Year 1 to ask for their help. He found he was receiving fewer letter from children over the years as children appeared to be forgetting about him. He had lost touch with which toys were children’s favourite toys. The children produced a video presentation for the children across the school to remind them to write to Father Christmas and also wrote letters themselves to Father Christmas with the information they gathered following their research.

Middle Street Christmas Stars

All the Middle Street children were absolutely brilliant yesterday. I was so proud of them not just once, but twice.
In the morning they had to cope with a power cut after walking to the theatre and not doing their dress rehearsal as planned. Then in the afternoon they walked onto the unfamiliar stage and put on fabulous performances for us all. Well done Middle Street children you really are superstars!!

Primary Schools Christmas Carol Concert

On Monday evening our school choir sang at the Primary Schools Christmas Carol Concert held at the Brighton Centre. As always this festive event was lively and fun and of course the Middle Street choir sang brilliantly. Thanks Mr Brazil for teaching the choir the songs and accompanying the children to this event.

Fire Safety Talk

On Tuesday children in Year 2 and Year 5 enjoyed a fire safety discussion with the East Sussex fire service. Research Project Sussex University are conducting a research project with children from Years 2, 4 and 6 next week. Parents and carers should have received a letter home with details of the project about 10 days ago. If you have a child in one of those year groups and didn’t receive the letter please contact the school office. The researchers are visiting the school on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday. It is not stressful for the children and simply involves a 10 minute questionnaire. Everything is of course confidential and names are not used. We have worked with Sussex University and Dr Robin Banerjee on many interesting projects in the past.

Thank You

Thank you to the PTA for  another brilliant Christmas Fair. What a very festive and fun event it was and all put together by a small group of very committed parents and carers. They do such a lot behind the scenes gathering prizes for the raffle, involving local businesses, cooking and making things and creating a magical Christmas grotto for Father Christmas all to raise money for all the children in our school. Please show your appreciation any way you can and if you would like to get involved with the PTA please let us know as the more parents and carers who help the more we can raise for the school.

Raffle tickets will be on sale until Thursday 10th December and will be available to buy at the Christmas performances and the children’s raffle will be drawn during Friday 11th December assembly. Winners of the adult raffle will be informed by telephone

Thank You From Mr Collins

Mr Collins says thank you so much for his wonderful and very generous leaving presents from parents and carers presented to him at the Christmas Fair. He was touched by the kind words and the songs sung to him by the children. Mr Collins will miss you all very much.
