Black History Assembly

Key Stage 2 children very much enjoyed listening to 3 speakers in assembly on Thursday. They told the children how their families, who originated from Africa and the Caribbean came to England and then eventually to Brighton. The 3 speakers who come from a traditional background of storytelling captivated the children with their stories of new beginnings. They encouraged the children to imagine how it must have felt to arrive in a strange country with different traditions and cold weather! Our current PSHE topic: New Beginnings links well with the stories of our visitors and we have encouraged the children to ask their Parents and Carers to share their stories of how their families came to live in Brighton.

OFSTED Report

Our Ofsted report is now available. If you would like a copy please ask at the office. The report will be on line in approximately three weeks time. The web site address is http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/reports/.

The report highlights among other very positive judgements our excellent ICT and sporting provision, how well children do overall in English Maths and ICT and that the children are happy and well cared for by the school. The areas we are working on to improve include the development of writing skills in Key Stage 1 and Foundation Stage. The inspectors also highlighted our poor attendance figures and were very concerned about the amount of parents taking children on holiday during term time. I will be writing a separate letter to you all regarding this problem in the near future.

Football

Our 6 a side football team played well on Friday at the Sainsbury’s Small School Tournament. The tournament took place after school at East Brighton Park. Very well done to all team members and we look forward to some exciting results in the future.
