Glee Performance

Glee club performed in Wednesday’s assembly. They performed their dance routines brilliantly (I think some members of the audience joined in too). Well done Glee club (and Miss Bish) you were amazing! You can watch their performance on our website.

Goodbye Andrea Orlandi

Yesterday we sadly had to say goodbye to our star Albion player Andrea. Andrea has been coming in to school regularly over the year as part of the Albion’s Seagulls Schools Partnership. Andrea has spent time in classes across the school taking part in a variety of activities. He also gave us a special wave at the Albion match that many of us attended. Andrea has been great to work with and we wish him lots of luck in the future and have no doubt that we will see many more fabulous goals from him! Thanks Andrea from everyone at Middle Street!

Comic Relief

Our comic relief day raised £150. Thank you everyone for joining in and donating.

Well Done Cocoa

Cocoa from Year 5 film entry has reached the Under 11s finals of the Space Invaders competition run by the University of Sussex. A preview of Cocoa’s film can be watched on Youtube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKx-VgihNxw  (see other entries here). Cocoa will be attending the screening of competition finalists on May the 20th at the Sallis Benny theatre. Everyone is invited along to the event. The winners will be announced at the end of the evening. Congratulations Coco, we are all very proud of you.

Parent and Carer Governor Vacancies

A reminder we are currently electing 2 new parent/carer governors to our governing body. The closing date for nominations is Friday the 3rd of May.

School Sports Survey

If you would like to take part with your child in the Education Select Committee’s school sports survey please access the link below to complete the survey
www.parliament.uk/education-committee. The survey is open until the 24th of May. If you want to make your feelings felt about the Olympic legacy and the value of sports and the importance of physical exercise, if you want the government to know your views here is your chance.

Nursery Open Afternoon

Mrs Denyer and the Nursery staff had a wonderful open afternoon yesterday. They welcomed new and familiar faces to the nursery for tea, cake and an opportunity to find out more about Middle Street Nursery. We still have nursery places for September, so do contact the office if you are interested.

On-Time Teds

This week’s Key Stage 1 winners are Reception and Year 2 with late marks each and, in Key Stage 2, the winners are Year 3 and Year 4 with 3 late marks. Well done to all four classes for being on time for school!

Sports Day Change of Date

A reminder that we have had to change the sports day date Sports day will now be held on Friday the 7th of  June 9 till 12 at Withdean Stadium.

Youth Theatre Half Term Programme

A new theatre in London Road, Emporium launches their youth theatre programme during May half term. Learn a new skill each day. Find out more on their website www.emporiumbrighton.com or contact Melody Roche (mum of Matilda in year 4).

Friday News Online

After half term the Friday News will no longer be handed out in paper form in class. To read the Friday News you will need to log on to our website and read it there. We will have a few paper copies available for those of you who do not have a computer. The school office will have copies available at the end of the day on a Friday. We will trial this for a half term and see how we get on. Do let me know over that half term how it’s working for you. I’ll be interested in your views and whether it is something we can continue with in the future. We could save a lot of trees if it works.

May Day Holiday

The school is closed for the May Day bank holiday on Monday the 6th of May.

Half Term Break

School finishes for the half term break on Friday the 24th of May and begins again on Monday the 3rd of June.

Summer Break

Our last day of the school year is Wednesday the 24th of July.

Spring has Sprung!

Has Spring arrived? I do hope so! Welcome back to everyone and I hope you had a chocolate filled Easter break. We have some new children joining us this term so on behalf of the middle street families and staff I warmly welcome you to Middle Street.

We are also welcoming Emma Goddardto the Reception class team. Emma is covering Abi St Claire’s maternity leave.

We had a fabulous turn out for our Friday morning sing along. Lots of parents and children joined us to sing before the start of the day today. Do come along and join us on Friday mornings at 8.35 in the school hall. Everyone is welcome.

Mini Marathon Runners

We had a number of children who ran in the Brighton (mini) Marathon on Sunday. They are: Harry from Year 2 who raised £200 for Barnados. Charlie from Year 6 came second. Other children who ran were Josh from year 2, Louie, Isabella, Sophia and Greta from Year 3. Lily and Eliot from Year 4 and Lillie and Jahlil from Year 6. Well done to everyone we are so proud of you all. Well done to those parents who ran too.

Children’s Parade News

Our flag number in the children’s parade is 73 and our assembly point is in Gloucester Road. Please arrive for 10.30 in time to begin the parade. Our theme is the Yellow Submarine and you can find ideas for costumes over the page.

Thank you to those parents and carers who have helped with preparations for the children’s parade. We would love more helpers so please come along and join in on Wednesday and Friday after school in the hall. We also need donations of white sheets. If you have some spare, please drop them off to the Nursery or the school office.

Parent/Carer Governor Vacancies

We have 2 Parent /Carer governor vacancies. You will be receiving shortly more information about how to go about becoming a school governor and nomination forms.

Sports Day Change of Date

We have had to change the sports day date (my fault!). Sports day will now be held on Friday 7th June 9.00 – 12.00. As usual the event will take place at the Withdean Stadium.

New School Counsellor.

We have a new school counsellor working with us. Her name is Ruth Lazarus. Ruth is a trained and experienced play therapist and will work in school on a Monday morning. If you would like to meet Ruth do contact the school and we will organise this for you. 

Nursery Open Afternoon

We are holding a Nursery open afternoon for prospective parents on Thursday 25th April from 3.45 until 5.00. We have places for Septembers intake so do tell your friends and colleagues in fact anyone you know with nursery age children to come along for cake, tea and a play and to find out more about our wonderful Nursery.

Nursery Fund Raiser

Nursery is holding a clothes sale in May. Please have any good quality clothes that you are able to donate to the nursery for the sale. The date of the sale is to be confirmed.
