Gully the Albion Seagull

Gully joined Ms Moriarty in Tuesday’s assembly. Gully was there to help present certificates and prizes to children from year 5 and 6. Last term the children took part in sports sessions run for us by members of Brighton and Hove Albion football club. Ms Moriarty was a little unsettled by being cuddled by a large furry seagull!

Dick Whittington

The Dick Whittington performance was a huge success on Tuesday with the children. There was lots of audience participation including Mr Cappiccinni sharing with us his break dancing skills! Unfortunately I don’t think we have that on film for you all to enjoy. Sorry.

The session starts at 2. At the end of the day the team will be in the school playground to chat with parents and carers. You will of course remember that our school council is contributing their ideas on the development.

Lunchtime Improvements

We are continuing to make improvements to our school lunchtimes. This week the children enjoyed a visit from the ‘Food in Schools’ team who have been supporting us with the improvements. The children found out about the new crockery, seating plans and the new and improved serving system. It’s been a lot of hard work for all involved especially for the team in the kitchen. Mrs Jones has also been very involved in ensuring that all the changes run smoothly and are also impacting positively on the children. More children are now having a school lunch which is good to see. The dinner menu can be found on a notice board by the entrance to the hall.

School Council Visit the Level

Children from the school council joined Mrs Jones and members of the council’s play service to discuss the proposed development of the level. They met on Thursday morning to view the level in its current state and to discuss plans for the future. There will be an opportunity for parents and carers to get involved with the consultation very soon.

Changes to Lunches

There has been a change to the lunchtime meals on offer this term. Menus will be sent home but the main change is that the optional choice is now depending on the day, includes jacket potato and a filling, baguettes or a ploughman’s. The optional choice replaces sandwiches. If the optional choice is meat there will be an option for a veggie filling.

Sign the Late Register

We’ve had a few issues lately with children arriving late missing the register and also not ordering a meal. Obviously its better to avoid being late, but  if your child does arrive late for school please could you ensure they sign the late register at the office.

Contact Information Please

We are always endeavouring to keep records up to date with your contact details. Please return the contact form sent to you recently if you haven’t already done so. Please let us know if you change your phone number especially if its a mobile phone as we use the texting service regularly to keep you up to date with events etc in school.

No Pokemon or Collectable Cards Please

Happy New Year! Welcome back to a new term. I hope you all had  fun and enjoyed the seasonal festivities but also managed to find a little time to relax.

If you have just joined the school then a special welcome to you from all of us at Middle Street.

We have had a happy and calm start to the term although I think we are all, including the children, still in a state of shock at having to get up so early again particularly during the dreary dark mornings.

Handwriting

We have revised our approach to teaching and learning of handwriting. We have introduced an approach which teaches children joined up writing from the very beginning. This approach helps to improve children’s spelling skills as well as improving the general presentation of their work. Please see attached information for more details.
