Christmas Fair – Runaway Success

Fun and Christmas cheer were enjoyed by all yesterday at the wonderful Christmas Fair. Great singing from the children on the Karaoke was also enjoyed. There were presents from Father Christmas in the Grotto too. We would like to say a big thank you to Father Christmas for taking time out from his busy schedule to come and join us at the Fair.
Amazing raffle and Tombola prizes were won by many. This all helped us to raise £2018.25! Well done to all the parents, carers and local businesses who helped to make the Christmas Fair such an amazing event.

Learning Journeys Celebrated

Teachers and children invited parents and carers into class this week to celebrate the end of this term’s Learning Journey and to share the projects they have been working on. We have asked parents and carers to complete feedback sheets on the Learning Journeys, which many have handed in already. If you have taken one home please remember to complete it and hand it in to the class teacher or the office. The feedback so far has been very positive. I will send an overview of the feedback home to you in the new term and hopefully answer any questions raised.

Bats’ Breakfast Fun

Year 1 had a great time returning to an empty, dark school on Wednesday. They explored their classroom with torches and enjoyed bat snacks in the dark.

No Dogs Please

Please could I remind everyone that dogs are not allowed on school premises at any time. This includes the playground. Dogs should be either left at home or tied up outside the school away from the school gates. This is for the safety of the children and because we have some children in school who can have allergic reactions to dogs.

Christmas Break

We finish for the Christmas break today and children return to school on Tuesday the 6th of January (Nursery on the 7th due to home visits for new children).

Thank you for the many cards and presents sent in to staff.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you from all of us at Middle Street.

Fabulous Christmas Performances

Once again the Middle Street children have used their many acting and singing talents to put on 2 wonderful Christmas performances for us. Every year we never cease to be amazed at how brilliantly the children perform. It is such a pleasure to see the enjoyment and pride on their faces when they get the applause from the audience. Thank you to every one, staff, parents, carers and children for making it a brilliant afternoon. Mrs Purdy, the props were brilliant!

Finalist City in Bloom

Flo Osborne Jones in Year 1 recently entered the City in Bloom competition with a flower garden design. I am very pleased to announce that Flo’s design is to be entered for the finals in August. Flo’s design will be made up and displayed in Preston Park where the judging takes place. Well done and good luck Flo!

Year 4 Gymnasts through to Finals

10 of our Year 4 children went along to a Gymnastics competition on Wednesday and won! They will now go through to the finals in March. Well done to all those children and thank you Ms Layzell who prepared and accompanied the children to the competition.

Request for Resources

Ms Stewart needs hessian sacks to fill with sand. She also would like old style wallpaper in 1930’s or 1940’s style. If you think you could help Ms Stewart with any of the above or with any 30s or 40s kitchen or other equipment please let her know.

Wonderful Wall

You may have noticed the brilliant artwork on the wall outside reception. The artist who produced this for us is an artist known as Req ( who is also a parent of a child in school). If you haven’t seen it yet take a look as it is brilliant! Ms Martin is creating a quiet and peaceful area for playtimes. Req came in and met with the School Council and together they came up with the design for the wall. We are hoping to brighten up other outside walls with Req’s artwork in the future.

Christmas Show

Please collect your tickets for the Christmas Shows from the school office. Additional tickets will be allocated on Tuesday. Priority will be given to separated parents, parents/carers of Year 6 and Year 2 children. Thank you for your responses regarding future venues. Most of you it seems, would prefer a larger venue and would be happy to pay a donation towards a ticket. We will of course always try to secure a venue free of charge as we have done with the Komedia.

Christmas Post Box

You can find the Middle Street Christmas post box in the foyer. Please ensure that envelopes are clearly marked with full name and class number on the front. Year 6 will be running the Christmas postal delivery service.

Christmas Fair

We look forward to seeing you all at the Christmas Fair on Thursday 18th December. Lots of fabulous festive activities and food to be enjoyed. We do have one rather unusual prize, which will be up for auction. Roberto Germaine of Healy’s solicitors is offering to advise and produce a Will for 2 people. The cost of this service would normally cost £326 so we are inviting bids from those of you interested. The highest bid wins (obviously). If you are interested in bidding for this service please complete a bidding form at the office and hand in to a member of the office staff. All bids must be in by Wednesday 17th December. The highest bid will be announced at the Christmas Fair on Thursday.

Choir Sing at Brighton Centre

The Choir sung at the Brighton and Hove Schools Carol Concert on Wednesday evening. Mr Brazil says they sung brilliantly, were impeccably behaved throughout the concert and were a real credit to themselves and the school.

No Clubs

All after school clubs will finish by Wednesday 10th December. Clubs will resume after the holidays.

Oops!

Recently a Fair Processing Notice was sent out to families. This is a generic letter. Unfortunately the letter sent out had the wrong school name on. However the information contained in the letter applies to Middle Street. If you would like a letter with the correct school name please ask at the office or access the Middle Street Fair Processing Notice via the school web site. Many apologies for the mistake and any confusion caused.
