Class Teachers for Next Year

Today the children found out who their class teachers are for next year. They are as follows:

Nursery: Vanessa Denyer and Meg Glyn Wright

Reception: Yvie Mason and Julie Layzell.

Year 1: Becs Davies

Year 2: Mary Anne Smart (Karen Busby on a Friday)

Year 3: Sarah Moriarty (Karlynn Layzell on Friday)

Year 4: Liam Brosnan

Year 5: Laura Burrows

Year 6: Dominic Smart (for the Autumn term) Katie Howell and Dominic Smart from January.

Children will meet their new teacher and teaching assistant on the 18th  of July. You will receive more staffing information in with the children’s reports later this term.

Playground Development

Please see the reverse of the Friday News how you can help us improve the play opportunities for our children. Thank you to the wonderful parents who are helping us improve playtimes for our children.

Athletics Championships

Our amazing athletes from years 4, 5 and 6 took part in the Brighton and Hove athletics championships on Wednesday. We came 4th overall. Well done and thank you to all the children who represented Middle Street so brilliantly!

Swimming Gala

Some of our excellent swimmers are taking part in a swimming gala on Wednesday the 2nd of July.

Strike Day Highly Likely

It is very likely that the school will be closed on the 10th of July due to strike action by the NUT, GMB and Unison. So that includes teachers, TAs and other staff members. As soon as I have confirmation from staff re: their intentions on that day I will let you know.

Friday Morning Sing-a-long

Just a reminder of our drop in sing-a-long on Friday mornings. All family members and children welcome. We have a sing-a-long with Mr Brazil from 8.30 until 8.45. Its great fun and good for your serotonin levels. You’ll find us in the hall.

On-Time Teds

This week’s Key Stage 1 winners are Year 1 and in Key Stage 2 the winners are Year 5. Well done to both classes for being on time for school!

Governor News

The governors met yesterday for a full governors meeting. We are also in the process of re-constituting. We will let you know more about this once we have discussed and agreed the new make-up of the Middle Street governing body.

Summer Holidays

The last day of term is Wednesday 23rd July. We return to school on Thursday 4th September. Nursery will return on Monday 8th September.

Technology Fun at Brighton Marina

Several classes this week had been visiting Brighton Marina where there were new technology workshops. The children experienced the power of learning with the support of a tablet

Cricket Tournament

On Wednesday Mr Brazil accompanied our cricket team to take part in a cricket tournament. Children were awarded a certificate and medal in assembly this morning. Thank you team and well done!

Dot to Dot Productions

Children from year 6 have been asked to audition for a new CBeebies programme: Art Ninja. The children have to submit a short video and application form.

Fishers Farm Visit

On Thursday Year 1 and 2 had a fabulous time at Fishers Farm. The visit was all paid for and arranged by the Brighton Lions. So a very big thank you to them from all the children, staff and parents of years 1 and 2. The classes were joined by members of the Brighton Lions who in the words of Ms Busby were ‘very lovely’.

Golden Hinde Visit

Years 1 and 2 are off out again next week. This time they are travelling to London to visit the Golden Hinde as part of their learning journey.

Year 6 Residential

Our year 6 children leave today for their residential long weekend in Kent. They are of course very excited and it looks like they will have some great weather for their adventures.

Athletics Championships

Our years 4, 5 and 6 athletes are competing in the Brighton and Hove athletics championships next Wednesday.

The next full governing body meeting takes place next Thursday 26th June.

Skydive for Charity

Alfie’s dad: Jason Cohen is doing a skydive on 19th July at Headcorn Kent. The charity he is raising money for is the Macmillan Cancer Charity. If you would like to sponsor Jason please go to www.virginmoneygiving.com      and look for Jason’s name.

Questions about Dyslexia

The Literacy Support Service is offering a parents’ open evening. The event is free. You can meet the literacy specialists and get tips and strategies to support your child.at 7.00: Dyslexia guidance talk, 7.30: primary apps presentation, 8.00: secondary apps presentation. There will also be stalls with books, software and games.
The event takes place on Thursday 3rd July from 7.00 till 9.00 pm. The venue is Goldstone Primary school, Laburnum Avenue, Hove BN3 7JW

Lost

Juno in Nursery has lost a small purple backpack with her name written on it and wings. The backpack has obviously escaped and flown off. If you see it please capture and return to Juno, Nursery or the school office.

Sports Day Fun in the Sun

Thank you so much for coming along and supporting the Middle Street sports day teams. The children had such fun and showed great team spirit. Thank you and well done to the participants of the parent, carers and other family members race. The team positions were as follows: in 5th place: Blue team, Purple and Red teams shared 4th place, in 3rd place: Green team, in 2nd place Yellow team and the winners of this year’s Middle Street sports day are White team! Congratulations White team! Well done everyone for taking part and being great team members.

Cricket with Mr Brazil

Mr Brazil took our cricket team along to a cricket tournament on Friday. The children played well and were complimented on their bowling style. Thank you Mr Brazil for accompanying the team and well done to the team for being such excellent ambassadors for the school.

Children Seen not Heard

Years 3 and 4 experienced life as an Edwardian child when they visited Preston Manor on Thursday 5 June.

Visit to Woods Mill

Nursery and reception had a great day at Woods Mill on Wednesday 4th June despite the soggy weather.

Tennis Tournament

Children from years 3 and 4 took part in a tennis tournament on Tuesday this week.

Stanmer Park Fun

On Wednesday Year 3 joined other year children from the city centre partnership schools for a fun and sporty event at Stanmer Park.

Helping Children Manage the Move to Secondary School Workshops

Moving to secondary school can sometimes be a challenging time for children and their parents. If you would like some support there are free workshops on 12th July 10 till 12 and 15th July 6.30 till 8.30. the workshop takes place at Tarner Children Centre.
