Grassed Boyces Street!

Mr Collins and I have attempted to super glue the grass to the road in Boyces Street and we’ve padlocked all the plants to the walls and fences. Now we’ve finally got some greenery we don’t want to lose it! What a great start to the day and what a difference a bit of pretend grass makes. It was very amusing to see everyone’s faces as they turned into Boyces Street. Every face turned into a beaming smile which was wonderful to see. Lots of you have walked or cycled to school this week including staff so it has been great to celebrate the end of Walk to School Week with today’s activities. Take a look at BBC South and Meridian tonight we should be on the television.

Well done to them all!

Children’s Parade

Can we say a big thank you to all of the children and parents who joined us on the children’s parade last Saturday. The costumes were fantastic and everyone helped to create a sunny, carnival atmosphere. Well done to the samba band who not only sounded brilliant but also showed a great deal of resilience by playing the whole length of the route. We also need to say thank you to Mr Brazil for practising with the band in order to get them to such a high standard and to Mrs. Purdey and parents for giving up their own time to make the wonderful Flintstone car.

Tag Rugby Tournament

Our Tag Rugby team has been training very hard and they are looking forward to taking part in a tournament on Monday 21st May at Hove R.F.C. Their last practice before the competition will be held at 2.15 p.m. on Hove Lawns (weather permitting) next Monday 14th May. Those children who are not picked up by parents/carers from the lawns will be walked back to school for 4.00 p.m.

Independent Infants

Firstly can we remind parents/carers of children in Years 1 and 2 to bring their children into school through the entrances to classrooms from the back playground. This really helps us to cut down on congestion in the main corridor of the school.

We would also like our infants to be as independent as possible, so leaving them at the door and giving them the responsibility for hanging their coats and putting their own book bags and water bottles away would really help with this.

Middle Street Choir

Choir starts again today and will take place every Friday after school in the library from 3.05 until 3.45. This was previously only open to Years 5 and 6, but now we would like to offer places to Year 4 as well. If you are interested in joining then please speak to either Mr Brazil or Miss Moriarty.

Athletics at Withdean

It is athletics season again and that means that we have booked Withdean Stadium for our athletics lessons. Years 3 and 4 will be going next week on Friday 18th May. They will need to ensure that they have their Middle Street P.E. kits and either plimsoles or trainers. It is always possible that it could be a sunny day so they will also need to take a water bottle and some sun lotion. The stadium is also booked for our sports day which will take place on Thursday 28th June.

Swimming Lessons

We have been contacted by Adele Hamilton who has competed at a national level in swimming for her native country of Australia for over 10 years. She is now living in Brighton and, in affiliation with Prince Regent Leisure Centre, is running swimming lessons every day of the week as well as intensive courses during school holidays. If you are interested, her contact details are:

Well done to Caine Lewin Turner in Year 5 who played for Saltdean United Football Club’s under tens team at the Sovereign Saints ground in Eastbourne. It was a fantastic achievement for his team to win the competition for their age group out of the 21 teams who entered.

Massage in School Meeting

Year 3 and Year 4 parents and carers have been invited to attend a meeting with Mrs Noble on Wednesday 9th May. The meeting will outline how we have introduced the massage in school programme with Reception class, the benefits of the programme and introducing the programme to children in Year 3 and Year 4. The programme will be rolled out across the school over the coming months.

Violin Demonstration

Year 2 will have the opportunity to listen and observe the violin teacher and a group of our children who are learning the violin perform for them. They will then have the opportunity to consider if they too wish to learn to play the violin when they move into Year 3. A meeting for parents and carers of interested children will take place in the next few weeks.
