Middle Street Christmas Show Tickets

You will have received a letter about tickets for the Christmas shows taking place on Tuesday 18th December. If that letter has not arrived home please ask at the office.

Brighton and Hove Schools Christmas Carol Concert

Our school choir will be singing at the Brighton and Hove schools carol concert which takes place on Monday 3rd December at the Brighton Centre.

Christmas Post Box

Our Christmas post box will be ready to take post from Tuesday 4th December. Please ensure that cards have the child’s or adults full name and class written clearly on the front to help our delivery persons.

Breakfast Club and the Start of the School Day

If you wish to drop off your child at breakfast club they must have a placed booked. You must book the place at the latest the day before. Children with a place booked can be dropped off from 8.00 until 8.45.  Children not at breakfast club should not be in school before 8.45. Children arriving before 8.45 should wait in the playground accompanied by an adult. Parents of children from year 4 up who come to school unaccompanied should be aware that children are still expected to wait in the playground until the school opens at 8.45.

Family SEAL Celebration

Our recent SEAL group of parents and their children celebrated the completion of the course on Tuesday with a party. I also had great pleasure in awarding each child and parent with a certificate acknowledging their attendance and completion of the course. We will let you know when the next course will run.

Nursery and Thai Festival

On Wednesday children from Nursery enjoyed a meal in our local Thai Spice restaurant as part of their learning about the Thai Loi Krathong festival.

Christmas and Winter Afternoon Tea

Our annual festive celebration takes place on Thursday 13th December from 3.00. There will be tea, festive cakes and lots of activities to join in with. Raffle tickets will be on sale soon. Father Christmas will also join us and you can meet him with your Christmas list in his grotto.

On-Time Teds

This week’s Key Stage 1 winners are Year 2 with 3 late marks and in Key Stage 2 the winners are Years 6 and 5 with 3 late marks each. Well done to all three classes for being punctual.

Prospective New Parents Meeting

We are holding the second prospective new parents and carers meeting on Tuesday 4th December at 1.30pm.  The meeting is for families looking for a reception place in September 2013. 

Headlice Alert!!!

We have had a few cases of headlice in school so please check your child’s hair. Years 1 and 2 seem to be particularly suffering at the moment. If you need help sorting the pesky little beasts the school nurse can help you with this. Ask at the office for her number if you need help.

Full Governors Meeting

The full governing body met on Thursday 29th for their autumn meeting. Minutes of the meeting will be available shortly pinned to the Governors notice board in the school foyer.

Dads Connect

Are holding a Father Christmas fair tomorrow, 1st December here at Middle Street School from 11-3pm.

Martlets Fundraising

We have a selection of Christmas soft toys on sale in the office, in aid of the Martlets Hospice, at £1.50 each.

Winter Break

We finish for the Winter break on Thursday 20th December and return to school on Tuesday 8th January.
Nursery children return to school on Thursday 10th January.

Anti Bullying Week

This week has been anti-bullying week. Children have been involved in activities and also asked to wear blue today to mark the end of the week and to ensure we all remain vigilant in spotting and taking action to combat bullying in our school.

Interested in Playing the Violin

If your child is in year 2 and year 3 interested in learning to play the violin please contact the music service on 293524.

On-Time Teds

Visit from the Fire Fighters

Children in Reception and Nursery were very excited when they were visited by the Brighton and Hove Fire Service to learn about fire safety and were allowed to climb on the fire engine.

After School Chess Club

Chris who runs the after school chess club is looking for another parent to help out for a few weeks in the Spring term. If any parent is able to help from 3.15 – 4.15 on a Monday please call Chris on 07812185760.  Only a basic knowledge of chess is required.

Congratulations

Our congratulations to Bethy in Year 2 for getting her 50m and grade 4 swimming certificates and to Callum in Year 4 for winning the under 11 Majors Sussex Chess Grand Prix in Horsham. Well done to both of you.

Pyjama Day

Finn and Freddy from Year 2 are delighted with the response to their pyjama day Children in Need fundraising day. Thank you to Finn and Freddy for a great idea. We have had such a cosy day!

Congratulations Rufus!

Rufus recently entered a competition to win an apple tree. The competition ran over all the Brighton and Hove schools and was organised by the Eden schools meals service. To enter children were asked to draw or paint an orchard. Rufus created his artwork using oil pastels, entered the competition and won! Rufus has very kindly donated his apple tree prize to the school. So our gardening club will be busy planting the apple tree very soon. Well done Rufus and thank you!

Diwali Celebrations

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 had a fabulous time on Tuesday and Wednesday celebrating Diwali. They took part in lots of activities making including  Rangoli patterns, Mehndi patterns on their hands and making Divas which are special Diwali lamps. Hannah, Prian, Parin and Vrishti’s families all joined in and worked hard to bring this special day alive for the children and for the staff. They also cooked lots of delicious food for the children. Thank you to those lovely families we all had such a lovely time learning about Diwali.

Rainforest Adventures

Years 3 and 4 visited the Living Rainforest in Berkshire on Monday. The visit was to support the work they are doing as part of their Rumble in the Jungle learning journey.

Individual Photos

Today the children had their photographs taken. They all looked beautiful of course. Sorry you were not forewarned in the Friday News I missed the diary entry somehow. We do always ensure the children look their best for their photos so I am sure you will have as always some delightful photos in time for Christmas.

Mrs Doig Says Thank You

Mrs Doig has been overwhelmed by your generosity. She has now collected many bags of children’s clothes, toys etc to send to the orphanage her son is volunteering in near Jaipur, India. Thank you so much for your donations.

Governors Meeting

Unfortunately the full governors meeting did not take place yesterday as planned due to so many governors not able to make the meeting. Another meeting will be arranged.

Matilda in Year 2 has lost her bookbag. It has a book and a pair of gloves in it. Please hand in to the office or Year 2 if found.

Shoreham Airport Adventures

Year 1 and Year 2 had a fabulous and very interesting visit to Shoreham airport on the last day of half term. They found out lots of information about flight, sat in the cockpit of an aeroplane and toured the airport. You see the photographs of their trip on our website.

Cheerleading Club

We still have spaces in our cheerleading club, which runs on Tuesdays after school. Cheerleading club members will also get the chance to actually perform at one of the Brighton and Hove Albion’s matches at the Amex stadium. How very exciting! Let the office staff know, if you would like to join.

Middle Street Adult Choir

We are still looking for new recruits to sing with us in our adult choir. The choir sings every Thursday 5.15 till 6.15. Do come along and find out for yourself how much fun it is. You will be amazed at how quickly you will find yourself singing along with a big smile on your face. If you are interested let me know and I can give you more details (and boost your confidence).

Mrs Doig Would Like Your Help

Mrs Doig’s son is volunteering in an orphanage near Jaipur, India. There are 40 children, 39 boys and 1 girl. They are all in need of clothing, toys and craft materials. If you feel able to donate anything from the above list please leave your donation at the office. Donations should arrive by Thursday 15th November and Mrs Doig will post them on Friday 16th November. All donations will be gratefully received and appreciated. Thank you.

Book Share

We are holding a book share session as part of the Global Crowd Sharing event on Wednesday 14th November. The event takes place at 1.00 till 2.00. To take part in the event, children should bring in books they would like to swap. This is a great way to refresh the bookshelves and have new stories to read. The event is part of a worldwide event taking place on that day, when millions of people will be sharing at the same time. Ms Davies in year 3 is overseeing the event.

School Closed

Please remember we are closed due to the Police Commissioner elections (we are used as a polling station) on THURSDAY 15TH NOVEMBER next week.
